BKOC Member Bio - Albert and Anna Hewson

Albert and I are recently retired from the life of farming.  We had a select herd of approximately 30 horses, all of which were homegrown.  The majority were brood mares that produced 6 to 10 exciting youngsters each year, some of which we would exhibit in shows around Southern Ontario, including the Exhibition and Royal Winter Fair.  However, no matter how nice all your animals are, you can only show so many!

Striving for quality, our stock carried the bloodlines of world renowned animals.  Our goal was to produce an animal who was competitive in the conformation ring and could successfully do what it was bred for.  We had stopped hitching, but continued to strive for the same heads-up, free-moving ability in our foals.  We use the same standards to create versatility in our dogs.

Having been interested and involved in dogs as long as I can remember, our family fell in love with a Siberian Husky fostered for Canine Vision Canada.  My involvement evolved into exhibiting Siberian Huskies in 1985 and establishing the "ThundeRun" prefix in 1988.  Our first Siberian litter arrived in July 1990 and resulted in two owner-handled Champions.  Australian Shepherds have been our breed since 1996 and we pride ourselves in being breeder/owner/handlers.

While we enjoy creating lovely Aussies and showing in the conformation ring, we strive to create an Aussie that can do it all.  I dabble in a number of other disciplines such as agility and disc to help "round out" my dogs minds and use clicker training methods starting with litters at 5 weeks of age.

I have served in elected and volunteer positions in both Siberian Huskies and Australian Shepherds.  Both Albert and I have served in elected positions for the Clydesdale Horse Association.
