The BARRIE KENNEL AND OBEDIENCE CLUB, INC. (BKOC) offers show handling classes on a regular basis. During these sessions, the novice handler learns the basics of working with his/her own dog in the events.

As part of the Club's educational mandate, members participate in independent public displays and special events. Currently, the Club is active in the opposition of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) as contained in the Ontario Government's Bill 132 which was passed in 2005.

The Club continues to support up-and-coming Junior Handlers across the province in a variety of ways. We offer Junior Handling competitions all 3 days of the Annual Dog Show.

Current Activities

Obedience Classes:

Participants in Obedience Classes must pre-register and pay for the entire session of classes at the beginning of the first class.

Each participant needs to bring their dog on a flat or choke collar, a 6 foot lead (no retractable leashes) and treats, and needs to wear comfortable clothing. A proof of current vaccination is required.

Date: Saturday mornings, January 28 to March 24

Classes: Puppy Beginner, Puppy Advanced and Basic classes offered

Cost: $100.00 + HST for 8-week session

Show Handling Classes:

Open Mat Time is for experienced handlers with new or novice dogs.

Date: Mondays, February 27 to April 30
(No classes Monday, March 23 or Monday, April 9)

Classes: Open mat time only @ 7:00 p.m.
